Ruth B releases an emotional reimagined version of “If I Have A Son”

Multi-platinum musician Ruth B. will be releasing a reimagined version of her single “If I Have A Son,” now featuring The Harlem Gospel Travelers. Originally released in June of 2020 as a solo track alongside powerful protest photos captured by New York (Harlem) based photographer Flo Ngala, Ruth says of the track: “If I Have a Son” is an honest reflection of how I have been feeling… The murder of George Floyd has served as a wake-up call for a lot of people, but for Black people everywhere, this has always been a reality.”

Ruth B. rose to fame from her 2015 four-time Platinum hit “Lost Boy,” which was originally conceptualized as a 6-second clip on Vine. “If I Have A Son” reflects on the dangers Black children are subjected to because of their identity. “No matter what you say, no matter what you do, this world will never be as friendly to you,” Ruth B. sings, a heartbreaking truth delivered with a chilling beauty.
